Wuhan math rock quartet Chinese Football are back with a new EP, Continue?, the second part of the band's "Game Trilogy"

Yin (音, “music”) is a weekly RADII feature that looks at Chinese songs spanning hip hop to folk to modern experimental, and everything in between. Drop us a line if you have a suggestion.

As Chinese football‘s reputation continues to plummet, Chinese Football‘s reputation continues to soar. The Wuhan math rock band — whose name is more a tribute to American Football than to the sport — have been steadily accumulating fans across the country and increasingly the continent thanks to an extensive touring schedule and their brand of mellow, hard-not-to-like indie guitar tunes.

Capitalizing on that momentum comes Continue?, a follow up to 2017 EP Here Comes a New Challenger and apparently the second part of a “game trilogy” which centers on a “hot-blooded but sensitive teenager”, according to the band.

Taking an “if it ain’t broke” approach, the five tracks of Continue? feature all the hallmarks of part one: catchy melodies, guitar hooks, and lots of glistening, summery vocals. “Monster” and “Dog’s Diary” are probably our picks of the bunch just now, but it’s worth delving into the full 20-something minutes:

Keep an eye out for a vinyl version of the EP “coming soon” on UK- and Germany-based label Dog Knight Records too.

For a bonus, here’s the 8-bit remix of “Electronic Girl”, one of the stand-out tracks from the first EP in the game trilogy:
